Senator Dave Rowley was born and raised in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. His business background includes entrepreneur, real estate, and insurance.  He has held several positions in the insurance industry, including property & casualty underwriter, western Iowa marketing director, and twenty years as the president of a multi-state property and casualty insurance agency. He currently works with Blum and Leonard Insurance Agency in Estherville and formerly served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa.
 
A lifelong resident of Iowa, he has been married to his wife, Kris, since 1981. They have lived in western Iowa since 1987 and in Spirit Lake since 1996.  They have four adult children, Erik, Krista, Kathleen, and Connor, and two grandchildren. His interests include family, travel, music, and reading.
 
Senator Rowley was first elected to the Iowa Senate in a special election in 2021 representing Iowa Senate District 1. He was elected to his first full term in 2022 representing Iowa Senate District 5.
