A third generation farmer, Senator Bill Dix was born and raised on his family farm near Janesville, Iowa. Senator Dix graduated from Janesville High School in 1981 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1985. After college, he became a sales manager with Cargill, Inc. of Minneapolis until 1991. Senator Dix returned to Iowa to join his parents in their diversified farming operation, specifically noted for their production of cantaloupe and pumpkins sold in many grocery establishments throughout Iowa and Minnesota. In 2007, Senator Dix assumed sole ownership of farming operations.
Senator Dix and his wife, Gerri, have three teenage children: Michael, Will and Libby.
In 1996, Senator Dix made his first bid for the Iowa House of Representatives. He served five two-year terms in the Iowa House. He served on numerous House committees and held leadership roles as Chair of the Government Oversight Committee, House Assistant Majority Leader, and House Appropriations Committee Chairman. He also served as the Legislative Campaign Chairman, where he spearheaded Republican campaign efforts to retain the majority in the House of Representatives in 2002 and 2004.
Senator Dix defeated the incumbent to represent Iowa Senate District 9 in 2010. He was re-elected in 2014 to serve the people of Iowa Senate District 25.
Senator Dix has many hobbies, including many sporting activities, spending time with his family and singing. He is a member of many organizations, including the Iowa Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, Farm Bureau, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, and Iowa Corn and Soybean Growers.
